We're all fine. There were tornados in town, but not in my area, and the only real damage we had was that the wind pushed our fence, so it's leaning a little more than it used too. That said, the whole storm thing was a pain in the ass. Sunday night Rob was working, so he called to tell me to check the weather channel. I had to turn off Winnie-the-Pooh to do so, and that pissed Ally off. Things werem't looking so great, so we needed to go downstairs. They weren't yet so bad that we needed to hide in the bathroom yet though. I just wanted to be on the (partially under-)ground level. Ally wanted to watch Pooh. The dog wanted to go outside in the pouring rain and hail. So I went downstairs to gather some books, a flashlight and stuff, and came back up. Ally quit whining about pooh, but told me she couldn't go downstairs because she was "pooping and tooting for a while." And, she didn't want to go downstairs and read because she didn't want to go to bed. I had to convince her it wasn't bedtime yet. and I had to get all her diaper supplies and take them down with us. It's really hard to change a poopy diaper with a puppy "helping" so I locked her out of Ally's room. I got done, and the dog had peed on the floor. Not her fault - I wouldn't let her outside. But it sure didn't make things any easier. So I had to clean up the floor. But first, I locked the dog in the bathroom with her bed. She wasn't thrilled. I flipped the radio on and listened while I read Ally some stories in our spare bedroom. When it got worse, I took her in the bathroom and cuddled up on the floor and read to her some more. The dog loved it. She curled up next to us with her head in my lap and went to sleep (she snores). And Rob kept calling me. I couldn't listen to the radio, because he was always on the phone asking if I had heard the latest. "No I didn't hear it - I'm listening to you!" I was a little frazzled. I DO appreciate that he was worried about me, and calmed down once everyone got situated. I got Ally to bed (just a little late) called everyone back to say we were okay, and went to bed.
Lightning woke Ally up around 12:30 or so. I put her back to sleep with me in my bed. half hour later, the tornado sirens went off. Damn! Put Ally to sleep in the spare bedroom (it's on an inside wall) and flipped the radio on again. She slept just fine. I didn't. The next morning, I slept in. Oh wait, that's what I tried to do. Instead, I woke up every 10 minutes trying to get comfortable in a twin bed 7 months preganant sleeping next to a sprawling 2 year old. Ally woke up and was fine. I was tired. I decided to go to work late. I work for the state, and wasn't sure I'd have to work at all, but could find no mention of cancellation. Until I was halfway to work. Heard on the radio the governor was letting us stay home. No one at work had heard this yet though. I decided to go home anyway. Heard confirmation on the radio again. Was good enough for me. My co-workers didn't believe me. They got sent home about 30 minutes later. Hahaha. Spent the day being lazy. (and teaching the dog "down") Am happy to be back at work today.
Anyway, there's some pretty bad damage throughout town. We didn't get much, and our power didn't go off. We were very lucky. I'm thankful. Not everyone was so lucky.
